Bringing Home Insights and Awards from DataComms

An event full of bright minds, data insights, and awards – we call that a success. It was a pleasure to attend DataComms Live, a conference, and the DataComms awards ceremony held in the evening at the May Fair Hotel, London, organised by Communicate magazine. We joined insightful sessions and celebrated communication excellence.

To top it off, the Ruepoint team is bringing home four awards! Huge thanks to our fantastic team and clients, Allianz and PwC Ireland, for their dedicated work and the opportunity to showcase thoughtful and data-driven measurement and evaluation. In this article, you can read more about our journey there.

DataComms Live Conference

The conference focused on the insight and analysis of data, data use, and visualisation in corporate communications. The agenda was packed with insightful panel discussions and networking opportunities, exploring how data can be used to inform, persuade, and engage audiences.

Here are some highlights from the sessions.

  • Predicting, measuring and monetising brand asset value

Elspeth Cheung, Director of Brand Commercialisation at Landor, shared insights on measuring and validating the financial performance of investments in a company’s most valuable intangible asset – its brand. She explained how predicting, measuring, and monetising the impact of a brand can solidify brand strategy. Elspeth highlighted how Landor’s proprietary BAV methodology does just that.

How iQStudent leveraged data for communications and marketing success

In this session, Heather McKim, Head of Social and Content for iQStudent, and Alex Pearmain, Co-founder of OneFifty Consultancy, delved into the practical application of insights from iQStudent, a private student housing company backed by Blackstone. The challenge for iQStudent was to measure what matters to the business – linking communications outputs to business goals. Heather and Alex discussed measuring business-centric metrics, accurately attributing marketing impact, and establishing feedback loops for campaign refinement. Their insights emphasised the importance of integrating effectiveness with creativity in data-driven corporate communications strategies.

Data protection: Beyond the headlines

Dave Murphy, Head of Media at the ICO, shared how the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) makes data protection engaging. The ICO oversees crucial regulations like the Data Protection Act, GDPR, and the Freedom of Information Act. Murphy highlighted creative campaigns linking ICO’s work to public figures like David Beckham, Eurovision, and Taylor Swift, and covered high-profile data breaches. He also discussed impactful campaigns on data aspects of domestic abuse and period and fertility apps, including the award-winning “Help Gran Stop Spam” campaign. Murphy’s insights demonstrated innovative ways to capture audience interest in data protection.

  • The art of visual storytelling with data

Valentina D’Efilippo, an award-winning designer, creative director, and author, emphasised that data visualisation goes beyond bar charts and graphs. It’s about creating meaningful experiences that enhance knowledge. In an age of short attention spans, design must bring data to life in unique ways. Valentina shared her approach to using data design to foster understanding, connectivity, compassion, and action. She also provided principles and tips to elevate the presentation and communication of data-driven insights, inspiring attendees to apply these techniques in their own work.

DataComms Awards Ceremony

The Ruepoint team has done incredibly well, and it’s an honor to announce that we won awards in all four categories we entered. Last night, at the official ceremony, our COO and Co-founder, Raina Lazarova, proudly received the awards on behalf of our team.

Additionally, our collaboration with PwC Ireland earned us awards in the ‘Best Data Insight from a Communications Campaign (One-Off)’ category and the ‘Best Data-Driven Competitive Intelligence’ category.
